I have a Bachelors of Justice Sciences, a Masters of Arts in Teaching, a Montessori Teaching Credential, and my COMP Certification (Classroom Organization and Management). I've held a professional teaching license in Alabama and Tennessee in the area of PK-3/PK-6, and I have been deemed highly qualified by the department of education. I am a member of the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society, Students First, NAMI, and MACTE. I am responsible for writing the declaration of Autism Awareness Day for the City of Irondale, Alabama, and I am a published author and recognized social justice advocate.
I love reading, writing, spending time in the great outdoors (camping, kayaking, water sports, hiking, and more!), traveling, dancing, tossing the football with my sons, and visiting bookstores, thrift shops, and historic sites.
I love teaching and it shows!
I approach lessons with enthusiasm, creativity, and wonder, and encourage my students to embrace their own curiosity, embody a strong character, and develop an authentic love of learning. I believe that all children deserve a high-quality education and that all students can and will learn when given the right opportunities and resources. My experience has shown that it is vital to engage and challenge young minds, nurture students' interests, and create individualized education plans tailored to each student's unique skills and abilities. As a teacher, it's my privilege and responsibility to guide students towards their maximum potential and to inspire them to become critical thinkers, leaders, innovators, and passionate lifelong learners who recognize themselves as a stakeholder in their own future. I believe in educating the whole child. I support a curriculum that relies heavily on the Montessori philosophy. I aim to create partnerships with families and the community, to surround students with a supportive and unified support system that shares their very best interests at heart.
I offer one on one lessons, group lessons (ie a learning pod), and provide remote/virtual instruction to students ages 2 years old and up. My rates start at $50/hour or $250/week for regularly-scheduled meetings 4-5 days/week, 60-90 min sessions per day. For daily/weekly positions, I also require a quarterly supply fee (payable at the start of each quarter/3 month period) which is set according to students' unique needs and circumstances. In exchange, I provide the student with their own "kit" of supplies, and I also provide the curriculum, lessons, materials, craft, and project supplies needed during our sessions and for follow-up work afterward. Parents receive monthly progress reports and are given opportunities for regularly-scheduled one-on-one conferences to discuss their child's learning goals and students' assessment scores, address any parent concerns, and share students' progress and abilities in regards to age/grade-level expectations.
Feel free to message me with questions, special requests, or to schedule our first meeting!
I can't wait to meet my students and look forward to learning together soon!
